Today, 1 September 2019, marks the 80th anniversary of the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany. In the West and in the historiography of WW2, the invasion of Poland is seen as the catalyst that eventually propelled much of the globe into the deadliest war in human history.
The 80th anniversary of WW2 (which goes through 2025) is a milestone event, and I predict in terms of popular interest and media attention will be the biggest WW2 anniversary cycle since the 50th anniversary in the 1990s. As WW2 fades further into history and out of living memory, interest in all things WW2 is not diminishing, in fact, it is a subject that is always increasing in popularity.

Sad fewer and fewer veterans, why now more so than ever before why it is imperative for us to honor and remember WW2 generation while they are still living.

Most think of WW2 in Asia as having begun with Pearl Harbor, the British with the fall of Singapore, and so forth. The Chinese would correct this by identifying the Marco Polo Bridge incident as the start, or the Japanese seizure of Manchuria earlier.

'The very atmosphere of a battle defies description and eludes the imagination. Words cannot convey even a suggestion of the sounds heard and the emotions felt, when every faculty is heightened, when every nerve is tense.'
